How the port day planner fits together
Plan a realistic port day
Port days fail when the itinerary ignores tender lines, taxi gaps, and all-aboard. This planner starts from hours ashore, stacks curated stops that fit, and keeps a return buffer so you are not sprinting for the gangway.
Plans are walking- and taxi-oriented sketches for common cruise calls—not private tour contracts and not a guarantee the ship will call on your sailing.
Where the port data comes from
CruiseStar curates popular Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Alaska ports with real highlight stops, typical timing, tender notes, and best-for tags. The library expands as we add more calls.
Use ship excursions when you want a guaranteed return. Independent plans need harder buffers and a backup if weather flips.
How to use the timeline
Pick a port card, scrub hours ashore, and read the timed stops top to bottom. The buffer is intentional empty time for tender queues, bathroom breaks, and getting lost once.
Share the port and hours link with cabin mates so everyone works from the same skeleton before booking paid tours.
Safety and return discipline
Confirm pier name, tender status, and all-aboard on the ship’s daily planner. If a stop does not fit with buffer, drop it. Missing the ship is never worth one more beach photo.
Port day FAQ
Is the port day planner free?
Yes. Browse ports, build a timed day, and share the plan without an account.
Are times guaranteed?
No. Minutes are planning estimates. Leave the buffer for all-aboard and verify pier logistics onboard.
What does tender mean here?
You boat ashore instead of walking off a pier. Tender lines eat clock time, so short calls get simpler plans.
Can I add my own stops?
Not yet in the tool. Use the curated stops as a skeleton and adjust ashore with your own bookmarks.
Can I share a port plan?
Yes. Share encodes the port and hours ashore in the URL so friends open the same timeline.
Which regions are covered?
Caribbean, Bahamas, Mediterranean, and Alaska highlights such as Cozumel, Nassau, Santorini, Barcelona, Juneau, and Skagway.
Should I book a ship excursion instead?
Book ship excursions when you need a guaranteed return or complex logistics. Independent plans are fine for walkable downtowns if you keep the buffer.
What if my call is only four hours?
Lower hours ashore. The planner drops stops that no longer fit and keeps the return buffer.
Does this know my ship’s pier?
No. Pier assignments change. Ask guest services which pier you are on—especially in places like St. Thomas—before locking taxi timing.
Are private islands included?
Perfect Day at CocoCay is included as a Royal Caribbean private-island style call.
What if weather is bad in Alaska?
Keep a downtown fallback stop. Glacier and tram views can disappear in clouds; waterproof layers matter more than cute outfits.
Is this medical or safety advice?
No. It is a timing sketch. Follow crew instructions, local laws, and your own comfort with independent travel.
