How the packing generator fits together
What this packing tool does
You answer a short sailing quiz (ship, dates, who you are packing for, climate, formal nights, pool days, excursions). CruiseStar turns those answers into a checklist sized for your trip length.
Your personal checklist—including what you have already packed—stays private on this device or your account. Sharing never publishes your checked-off progress.
How the quiz shapes the list
Nights drive clothing counts. Gender (or unisex) changes evening and day-wear suggestions. Climate toggles layers, sunscreen, and cold-weather pieces. Formal nights, kids, pool/beach, active excursions, nightlife, and remote-work kit add their own sections.
Climate is suggested from your embarkation month, then you can override it. That keeps Alaska and Caribbean sailings from sharing the same suitcase fantasy.
Private lists, shareable choice paths
Saved lists with packed checkmarks are private. When you tap Share, CruiseStar builds a public link from the ship, nights, dates, and quiz letters only—the choice path—not your Firebase or browser checklist progress.
Friends who open the link get a fresh unchecked list generated from the same answers. They can save their own copy without seeing what you already packed.
Using the checklist
Tap items to check them off. Progress stays in local cache on this device. If you optionally sign in, the same list can sync to your CruiseStar account so phone and laptop stay aligned.
Leave and come back anytime: My lists appears under the ship picker when you have saved checklists, so you can reopen one or start another sailing without losing the first.
Regenerate anytime after changing quiz answers. Your previous checks are replaced by a fresh list sized to the new answers.

Is the cruise packing list generator free?
Yes. Build and use a checklist without paying. Account save is optional.
Do I need an account?
No. Guests keep lists in browser cache. After you generate a list, you can optionally create a free account to sync. Skipping sign-in is totally fine.
Can I keep more than one packing list?
Yes. When you leave and come back, My lists appears under the ship picker whenever you have saved lists. Open one, delete one, or start a new list from the ship step.
Are my packing lists private?
Yes. Checked items and saved lists stay on your device or account. They are not public by default.
What happens when I share a packing list?
Share publishes a choice-path link: ship, nights, dates, and quiz letters only. It does not include what you have already packed, and it is not your Firebase document.
What are the quiz letters in the share link?
Each quiz answer maps to a letter or digit in a fixed order (who you pack for, climate, formal nights, travelers, kids, pool, excursions, nightlife, work kit). Friends regenerate the same checklist style from that path.
How does the list know what to include?
It uses your ship sailing length plus quiz answers (gender, climate, formal nights, kids, pool, excursions, nightlife, work kit) to add the right sections and clothing counts.
Can I edit the checklist?
You can check and uncheck items. Regenerating from new quiz answers rebuilds the full list.
Will it pack formal night correctly?
Pick none, smart casual, or formal in the quiz. Formal adds elevated outfits; smart adds dinner-ready looks without a full tuxedo assumption.
Is this the same as a generic packing blog?
No. The journal guide explains the theory. This page is the live generator that builds a checklist from your answers.
Can cabin mates customize after opening my link?
Yes. They get an unchecked list from your answers and can save their own private copy with their own packing progress.
Does sharing sync to my CruiseStar account?
No. Sharing only creates a URL. Account sync is a separate optional step for your private list.
