Seabourn actually runs two different kinds of ships

Seabourn's ocean ships (Encore, Ovation, Odyssey, Sojourn, Quest) are classic ultra-luxury vessels, while Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit are purpose-built polar-class expedition ships with kayaks, Zodiacs, and even a six-passenger submarine. These are genuinely different products under one brand.

Encore class: the current ocean-ship standard

Seabourn Encore and Ovation are the newest all-suite ocean ships, with every cabin including a veranda and the line's signature small scale, none of Seabourn's ocean ships carry more than a few hundred guests.

Odyssey class: the established all-suite fleet

Odyssey, Sojourn, and Quest set Seabourn's modern template for all-suite, all-veranda accommodations and remain highly rated for their intimate service ratio.

Venture and Pursuit: Seabourn's expedition ships

These ships trade the classic ocean-liner elegance for Antarctica- and Arctic-capable hulls, onboard citizen science labs, and adventure gear rooms, a completely different itinerary category from Seabourn's Mediterranean or Caribbean ocean sailings.

What the Seabourn Club adds over time

Seabourn's loyalty program grants complimentary laundry, higher deposits toward future cruises, and eventually a complimentary suite night the longer you sail with the line, worth factoring in if you expect to become a repeat Seabourn guest.

Should I book an ocean ship or an expedition ship?

Choose based entirely on destination: Encore, Ovation, Odyssey, Sojourn, or Quest for classic luxury itineraries in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, or similar regions, and Venture or Pursuit specifically for polar expedition itineraries you cannot reach any other way on this brand.

Is Seabourn worth it for a first ultra-luxury cruise?

Yes, particularly on the ocean ships, where the all-suite, all-included format (most alcohol, gratuities, and many excursions included) removes much of the a la carte decision-making found on mainstream lines.

How does Seabourn's submarine work on Venture and Pursuit?

The six-passenger submarine is an optional paid excursion available on select expedition sailings, offering a genuinely rare way to see polar or remote marine environments that no ocean-class Seabourn ship can replicate.

Bottom line

Decide destination first: classic luxury on an Encore or Odyssey-class ocean ship, or true polar expedition aboard Venture or Pursuit, then let the Seabourn Club's benefits reward you for coming back.
